Bacon is good for me!

“I gotta tell ya something, bacon is good for me”. With these words, I fell in love with a little boy from the reality show “Wife Swap” who had donned himself “King Curtis.” He was responding to the “new mommy” trying to force the family to eat healthier. She had already thrown out the junk food that King Curtis loved, so when it came to the bacon, he took a stand…packing his little rolling suitcase and heading out to stay with his grandma (he soon returned home after dining on chicken nuggets at granny’s house!).

I felt Curtis’ pain, as I’m a bacon lover myself. When I say bacon lover, I mean a true bacon lover…not a turkey bacon lover…not an imitation bacon lover…a true , fried in its own fat, pork bacon lover. Yes, I know it’s bad for me, clogs the arteries, packs on the pounds, blah, blah, blah, but I really don’t care. It’s not like I eat it every day or even once a week for that matter, but I do eat it , and when I do I enjoy every crispy, greasy, salty morsel with no guilt or regret. So imagine my delight when I discovered a web site called J&D’s Bacon Salt (www.baconsalt.com). The company’s tag line is “Everything Should Taste Like Bacon” and the founders, Justin and Dave, are on a mission to make that happen!

J&D’s Bacon Salt is the brain child of two regular guys (according to their web site) who love grilling and watching football on Sunday, eating until they can’t get off the couch and, of course, they love bacon. Their first round of funding came from a video of Dave’s three-year old son, which won $5,000 on America’s Funniest Home Videos. J&D’s sells many bacon products including bacon salt (original, peppered, hickory and natural flavor), which you can buy on-line or in several supermarkets, including Kroger (for you folks in Atlanta), bacon popcorn, baconnaise (available in regular and lite…huh?) and, oh, my goodness, even bacon flavored lip balm and bacon flavored envelopes!! Who would have thought? Well, apparently Justin and Dave did and I applaud them.

When the weather warms up and it’s time to fire up the grill, I’m seriously going to give the bacon salt a try. The baconnaise sounds promising, but I have to draw the line at the lip balm and envelopes. Until then, I dare anybody to try to take my bacon away from me, lest I pack my suitcase and head on down the road…
